Finally, the furnace opens up!
Finally, this great Heart unlocks;
Finally, the reason is clear
Why Jesus has so suffered.
By piercing his Heart, he is consoled:
The passageway carved by the lance
For his Heart’s devouring fire,
Leads straight to the heart of the sinner.
These beautiful sentiments are expressed in one of St. Louis de Montfort’s cantiques (hymns) on the Sacred Heart of Jesus. While there is little direct attestation to Fr. de Montfort’s devotion to the Sacred Heart in his prose writings he composed no fewer than 7 hymns in honor of that great Heart which so loves men.
